What service has helped me the most for learning and personal development?
What do I think is the most helpful thing you can add to your life to help grow and feel better and learn and expand? For me, I have found that having an Audible audiobook membership over the last six-plus years, maybe even seven or eight has been one of the most helpful parts of my life.
I have the Platinum membership I get 24 audio books every year, and I’ll show you look inside my profile here.
This is a basic signup page, you can get a free trial. If you’d like to help me earn a little bit, Will you please use my link on the sidebar? Because this will help me earn a little bit.
If you will enjoy reading and contributing to the discussion for this post, will you please join us on the YouTube video above and leave a comment there because I read and respond to most comments on YouTube?
The Audible link is right here on the sidebar of pretty much every page.
Let me show you inside my Audible account. I’ve bought over 200 books on Audible.
Here are some of the reviews that I’ve left, for example, Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime gave me really good motivation to write my own book. I reviewed this in September 2018.
I shortly after that published Officer Banfield within a few months on Audible, which is my story of three years in law enforcement from corrections to being a police officer and then leaving the job so far, people that are reading it, have really enjoyed it.
You can see the books I’ve loved the most and really got so excited about that I wrote reviews about here, and this is a fraction of my total experience on Audible.
For example, this book Soul Survivor is about a boy who came into this life with memories of dying in a plane crash as a world war two pilot. All of this was verified to a crazy level. An incredibly inspiring story that helps us remember reincarnation is a fact of life and that the Christian church a few hundred years ago said, -Well, we can’t let people have reincarnation, they’ll think it’s too easy, you can just be a sinner this life and then maybe you can get a shot in your next life when you reincarnate. We got to take that away from people to make them really do what we tell them in this life- Soul Survivor is really helpful for overcoming blocks like that where a lot of us have forgotten about reincarnation forgotten that we chose to come here and we’ve done it a lot of times before.
This book, Nonviolent Communication, was incredibly helpful to empower me to share what I need in the nicest way possible.
Communication is an art form. The key is to ask for what we need in a way that helps people feel safe and give it to us or safely say no to us, in which case often they will recommend where we should go next. Whereas with violent communication, we often just get frustrated and don’t get the help we need.
Brené Brown’s books I think literally saved my life and help me reach out and get vulnerable and start asking for help and start going Alcoholics Anonymous.
I used to listen to Beené Brown’s books when I’d be laying in bed after an entire day of drinking heavily. Before, I used to have like a half handle of vodka and play video games and drink Diet Dr. Thunder from 10 to 15 plus hours then I’d lay in bed sick and I listened to Beené Brown’s books on audio. And it helped me, especially her book, the Power of Vulnerability, one that she’s got on Audible.
This book by Anita Moorjani, Dying To Be Me was outstanding. Her near-death experience was really helpful to process that Wayne Dyer helped get this book published for her. And I found it really helpful for me, she was in the very last stages of cancer, and she had a near-death experience came back and recovered and the doctors all were blown away. They’d never seen a case go that far in and turn around so rapidly, and the treatment the doctors applied didn’t even seem to make any difference. It was all essentially her own being.
David Sedaris I, that was a great book.
Charlamagne Tha Godd’s -- Black privilege, I was inspired by the honesty and love listening to that book.
So many good books!!
Shoe Dog by the founder of Nike has helped motivate me to build my Uthena up and I definitely totally copied Nike, the brand for that. And Uthena, if you’ve read Phil Knight and you saw my video of how I did the branding for Uthena yet? Totally, very, very closely related there.
Gabrielle Bernstein’s The Universe Has Your Back, another beautiful book.
I took action on Tony Robbins‘ book which I put $10,000 into a dash masternode when it was $10 and now the price is $150.
Amanda Palmer’s book, The Art of Asking. Incredibly helpful. Again, I just did all these mind expansions for personal development are so helpful in everything.
Amanda Palmer’s book. This helped me with my marriage to be able to just say, look, let’s not make this weird. We’re gonna ask for sex and talk about it openly. And that’s helped me across the rest of my life with friends, with family, with coworkers, if they’re thinking something I think I need, just ask for it and then be okay to say NO when other people ask for things that I don’t want.
I don’t even remember this Street Smarts book and that’s funny because I read it and said as a great review, and I don’t even remember reading that but some of these books are really helpful and they had an impact then you don’t even remember it later.
Men are from Mars Women are from Venus. Another really helpful book at a time when we were growing and having some struggles in our marriage. My guys in that take such great care of me, they suggested read this book and it helped a ton with our marriage and helped me to see it’s okay if Laura and I have some differences. It’s up to me to do my best and to be understanding with whatever is different about her.
Eckhart Tolle, I’ve listened to so many of Eckhart Tolle’s books, I can’t believe I didn’t leave a review for The Power of Now. I put five stars but I didn’t actually write one. Eckhart Tolle, huge help for spiritual transformation.
I’ll go show you my library on here all the books I’ve got some free go down to my library. Just massive amounts of books that I’ve gotten my library tons of Wayne Dyer books just got Louise Hay. Alan Harkin Out of My Mind, was helpful.
Left to Tell was a beautiful book that was incredible to just relate in left for tell how she was in a Rwandan Holocaust where almost all of her people were killed and the way her mind works, it just says Sounds so much like how mine works on a daily basis, but it makes sense in her scenario where she’s hiding in a bathroom trying to survive the killers. Whereas for me, it helps me to see all of the same things that go on in her mind in that scenario that I’m like, Well, that makes sense. And it seems like a miracle these go on in my mind, and it doesn’t make sense because life is so good.
The devil shouldn’t talk to you. Life is so good. The devil shouldn’t talk to me. Right? A beautiful book that was helpful. I’m still going through a bunch of these Wayne Dyer books.
I did not finish that Jim Norton book that was kind of funny, but I did not finish that.
I Can See Clearly Now Wayne Dyer’s memoir was really good.
“My Lie“, this was a tough one to go through and it helped me to grow in understanding and love and acceptance in terms of some of the things that for most of my life I found most objectionable and disgusting about this whole existence, to have some more love and understanding and acceptance of that.
The gift of an Audible membership, if you want to give someone a gift, I gave a family member a gift and now they’re listening to books every month now.
The miracle of an Audible book membership is just you can’t even comprehend how much help you can get by listening to books, like “The Book of Joy, Lasting Happiness and Changing World” with the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu, extremely helpful.
Just when you combine reading all of these books together. It’s just amazing. In fact, I can trace the motivation and willingness to start my company by some of the very first audio books I’ve read.
I went through some of the very first audiobooks I read with my membership and I can say some of the times in my life where I made the least growth, were when I did the least reading.
This book about Google “in the Plex” helped me start my own company. I was listening to this book and I thought, if these guys can found Google by seeing a problem of figuring out a solution to offer something better than was on the market, there’s no reason I can’t do that too.
I went forward and listen to a bunch more business books from there like “The Lean Startup“, listen to a bunch more books and these motivated me to get my business going.
My wife’s listening the 50 Shades of Grey. I’ve not listened to that one. I’ve watched enough adult movies in my life, I kind of feel like I don’t need to listen to 50 Shades of Grey.
Rich Dad, Poor Dad, I wish I had not got the abridged version of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s book because now it’s just like I’m not gonna go listen to the full version after I listened to eight hours, maybe I could.
Just so many books that were so helpful for me all off this one audible membership. So I’ve shared this with you as a primary purpose to tell you something that’s been extremely helpful for me in my life. Now, according to the odds, there’s a very low likelihood that in terms of financial return, I’ll get almost anything out of this and the affiliate marketing. But if you want to help out with that, on the sidebar of almost every page, on my website, you’ll find an Audible link.
If you click on that, it’ll take you over where you can get a free trial membership. And if you don’t have Audible already, maybe you can help me earn something I really don’t care about that. What I want is you to have the best life and to be empowered and to have the same kind of transformational experience I’ve had as a result of all these books.
I still listen to an audiobook almost every day today now, after over seven years of doing that, and I can say the changes I’ve seen in my life are massive and I’m very grateful to Audible and all the production companies all the authors all the narrator’s who’ve helped make that possible.
Thank you very much for learning today about what in my opinion is the number one learning and personal development services.
It’s been really helpful because I often listen to audiobooks while my hands and eyes are occupied. Meaning while I’m walking my dog while I’m driving while I’m doing dishes, audiobooks are a very effective way to learn.
If you haven’t already started listening to audiobooks, maybe you’ll join me or maybe you just forgot about your Audible membership. Maybe this will be helpful for you.
If you’d like more videos like this, I trust your go on the Jerry Banfield vlog playlist in my YouTube channel and if you want to listen just to things like this, I trust you to go on my website and take a look at the Jerry Banfield podcast, if you like to listen to audiobooks, you also will enjoy podcasts and I realized lots of times you might not be able to watch one of my videos, but you might enjoy going and listening to a podcast episode instead.
I am not putting out for the foreseeable future any more audiobooks myself, if you search on Audible, I actually have put out something if you want my audiobooks, I’ve actually got a bunch of audiobooks out, 14 different audiobooks I’ve released, the ones that have sold the best you can see up here, the Google AdWords, the YouTube book and the Facebook book.
However, I think personally Officer Banfield and the Speaker Meeting 2017 are my best books. These are my autobiographies, these go into stories that I think these two books I’ve put out are in the same category as a lot of the books I’ve shown you that might be really helpful for you.
If you want to listen to me and my books, I suppose I should have mentioned that up front.
All right enough for this video.
