Hello and welcome to my course on MailChimp, the free mailing list and email campaign management system.
We’re going to discuss in this course how to use MailChimp to set up mail, and maintain mailing lists to have users automatically subscribe to them by themselves without having you be involved, and how to send out mailing campaigns based on your mailing lists. I suppose the first thing that we ought to discuss is why do we have a mailing list in the first place?
Mailing lists are a great way to get in trust and get in touch with customers to present your product to them. Whatever that product might be. Whether it’s a website that you would like them to visit, maybe it’s an e-book, or a Udemy course that you’d like them to buy, maybe it’s a physical product that you’d like them to see and consider purchasing.
Mail is one of the most powerful ways to get in front of customers and to present your product. Why? People tend to read their emails more than they do posts on social media. Studies show that Facebook and Twitter posts go by, and people miss them or they glance over them. That’s not as true with emails where people tend to go in and read the contents when an email arrives in their inbox. Emails sit in your inbox and wait for the person to read them, whereas Facebook or Twitter posts go by so quickly your posts can often be lost in the noise, and you have to repost during particular times of the day when people are likely to be reading.
You should own your user addresses rather than giving them to another company for free. This is a significant point. Facebook and Twitter are making millions off of the list of mailing addresses that they are accumulating from you. You should own this information, it’s yours. You should be able to do anything you want with it and nobody should be able to take your mailing list away; not Facebook not Twitter and certainly not MailChimp, and MailChimp will not. That’s why you have a mailing list to get your product in front of your customers.
If you’re interested in doing that, then you might consider MailChimp, but why? What are the significant or powerful features of MailChimp that you’d like to consider?
Well, first of all, it’s free at least up to 2,000 subscribers it’s free. If you go beyond that, then you end up having to pay a monthly fee to subscribe to MailChimp and that’s where they make their money, but up to 2,000 people on your mailing list it’s all free to use. This is great.
It’s easy to use. That’s right. I created a course on it but it’s not a particularly long course and it’s going to handhold through the thing which is going to make it even easier to use it.
It produces professional quality results rather than just sending out simple text mails, we’re talking about sending out HTML-based webpage looking emails. Users have the alternative to view the email on a web page, to view the HTML in their email reader, or to display a textual version of it. It’s all responsive, it runs great on iPhones, it’ll miniaturize itself down to tablets, and so on and still look good. These are professional quality looking emails we’re talking about and it maintains your mailing list safely off site, off your computer. If anything happens to your computer, your mailing list is safe on the MailChimp servers.
Let’s look at an overview of this course. Although I’m using PowerPoint slides right now to show you the course contents. This course is presented primarily through screencasts, so we’re going to be using the web interface for MailChimp to configure mailing lists and email campaigns. You’re going to see everything from the ground up. You’re going to see how it really works, how the real tool works. These are probably going to be the last of the PowerPoint slides that you’re going to see. This course covers everything you need to create and maintain; MailChimp mailing lists and your email campaigns that you’re going to use based on those mailing lists. The course is simple to follow.
Next, let’s talk about the requirements.
The course requirements are minimal. Here’s what you need: you need a functioning web browser, something that can go out and access the MailChimp web interface, and you need an email address. Odds are you probably have these two things otherwise, how would you have purchased this course? I think everybody looking at this course meets the requirements. Well, with the requirements satisfied what do you say we go out and generate some Internet traffic?
Here we go with the first of our bonus sections.
You thought it was over but you were wrong. Here we’ve got a section called Creating Mailing Lists Signup Squeeze Pages. I was somewhat disappointed with the look of the web-based signup pages for MailChimp so I went out searching, and I found this product. There are products like lead pages and so on that are extremely elegant and beautiful.
That’s what you see the professionals use to drive you and to have automatic pop-ups, and to have timed opt-in things, and stuff like that. This, what I found was a simple plugin for WordPress. It’s a hosting option that I absolutely love and I want to kind of show you in this course how to use it. That’s kind of the basis of at least this section so what we’re going to do, here’s the introduction, we’re doing it right now, and we’re talking about squeeze pages.
What squeeze pages are, also known as funnel pages, are pages that squeeze you down to sign up for something. In this case, what you’re signing up for is the mailing list, so we’re talking about creating more sophisticated squeeze pages or funnel pages to get people to sign up to your list. I’m going to show you some sample squeeze pages and then we’re going to look at FunnelKit Go. This WordPress plug-in that I’ve been talking about to create squeeze pages. It’s just one of many options.
Next, is to add an opt-in form to your squeeze page, so what we’re going to look at is how to have the little sign up stuff for people to enter their name, and what you should enter there. Finally, we’re going to configure MailChimp to use this squeeze page that we created with the FunnelKit Go. We have just one quick little rule on how to use mailing lists. Free stuff and selling stuff, the rule is 80/20. Give them 80% information to 20% selling. We have a project so I’m going to have an optional project here since this is an optional product. It’s going to cost you about $29 to buy and I’ll go over all of that.
Then following would be the summary of the course which is pretty much the exact opposite of this and which we’re going to talk about what you just learned. If you’re ready then let’s get started with the section content.

Lesson One: MailChimp Basics
Hi, in this lecture I wanted to extend the basic MailChimp course that I’d already put together on Udemy with some information that I’ve gained since then on how to create sales funnels, and so on to get people to sign up to your mailing list.
What I’m going to do in this lecture is I’m going to show you the squeeze pages, or sales funnels, or squeeze pages to your mailing list sign up that I’ve thrown together over the last few months using a tool called the FunnelKit Go. You can google it and find the URL to purchase it. The minimum price is $19 and this I’m comparing to using something like lead pages to create sales funnels which can cost you hundreds of dollars per month a subscription policy.
This is a WordPress plugin so what we’re going to do is we’re going to bring up a browser, and here we are in WordPress. I’m going to show you over here on the left, we have a funnelKit GO plug-in that adds menu items.
One of the things we can do is we can view the pages that we’ve defined through FunnelKit. I have three pages here and you’re about to see them. The first is the signup form, the second is the signup Thank You form, and the final is the Newsletter or whatever they’re signing up for the Email Confirmation Thank You form.
We’re going to see them and we’re going to begin by viewing the Sign Up form. This is for a Fitness Technology Newsletter.
The first thing we have to do is — this is going to sign me up for a MailChimp mailing list, so let’s go over to MailChimp where I can see this Fitness Technology newsletter. These are two new newsletters that I’m working on and I’ll go to Fitness Technology, and I’ll make sure by clicking on here, and clicking delete, that myself I am not on the mailing list.
This way, I can re add myself through my forms. Let’s get back to the view of what is really the head of our mailing list funnel. Let’s go back to that again. The first thing that I need to point out to you is that as you can see from the previous page these sales funnels or mailing funnels have been up for a while and they’ve been spectacularly unsuccessful. I don’t know how much I can tell you to copy them. I think they look good. I think they’re to the point and I think they establish a relationship right up front with the user, but for some reason they’re not very successful, and I’ve got to work on that.
Let’s go ahead and we’ll go through this little signup form process. This is the signup form and it’s asking me for my email which I will now enter. I’m at brianjjaxn AT gmail.com if you ever need to get in touch with me. I fill that in and I say, subscribe.
The next form is going to be the signup Thank You page and here’s what you want to do is you want to say hold on, don’t go anywhere because I just sent you a confirmation email.
Remember with MailChimp we’re using a two-step confirmation. The person enters their email, an email gets sent to that address, where they are expected to click on it, to confirm that their email is real.
You want to use a two-step process to get real people in your email. Here it’s telling me to go look at my email. Let’s go look at my email where we have two previous tests. Let’s get rid of that and then we’ll go to an email from me where this is the default email I usually just use that it’s a pretty good email.
You can and I will show you how to completely replace this email with your own affiliate links of marketing information, technical information, guidance, whatever you’d like to include in this email.
For right now, I’m just going to click on yes subscribe me to the list on this default email, and finally the last page comes up.
This is the email confirmation page, Thank You page. Here everything has been confirmed. I’ve been added to the list. I can confirm this by going over to MailChimp and refreshing the screen and seeing that yes, I am now on the list.
Let’s go back over here and you can see now I’m not letting my subscribers get away yet. You can either visit my Fitness Technology Facebook page -- the website -- or my author Brian Jackson site. This is an example of a funnel or squeeze pages that we’re going to put together using a product called funnelKit GO. It’s going to cost you about $20 and in the next few lessons; I’m going to show you how to construct these pages, and how to add them to MailChimp so that they pop up in the right order. I’ll see you in the next lecture.
Lesson Two: How to Use FunnelKitGO.
Hi, in this lecture, we’re going to look into using a product called funnelKit GO to build a squeeze page to squeeze people into signing up for a mailing list. You can create product pages on all the fancy pages that you’ve seen out there that you would normally create using something like lead pages which cost upwards of $200 a month to lease.
It turns out that it’s not $19 anymore it’s more like $47. The price and the product has gone up but I think you’re still going to find it’s worth it when you see what he can do. I am in Google and I’m going to show you where to get it. I’m going to type in funnelkit go as my search criteria -- funnel kit all in one word -- and then go, and we’re going to see here it is. You go to funnelkit.com and it will start showing you immediately a presentation which will sell you on the product or attempt to sell you on the product.
This is the example of a product page created most likely using FunnelKitGo. The product pages keep going, product pages do this and you’re going to see testimonials from people, you’re going to see videos and hear all the stuff, and eventually it’s going to come down to what you get with this product. What it’s going to come down to is offerings for this product.
They’ve got a personal license. This is good for one domain for $37 but for a little over $10 more you can get the full-blown developer’s kit which is what I’ve got which means you can develop for multiple sites, you can flip sites with it, you can do all kinds of stuff, you can do anything you want. It’s really a better deal to go for the $47.47 deal. Originally that personal license used to be $19 and this was $32 which was a real steal. Now it’s gone up to $47.47, sorry, but I still think it’s a great product.
You go down and you say, yes download, and you go through and you do all the PayPal stuff.
What you’re going to end up doing is you’re going to purchase this product through an affiliate handler called jvzoo.
I’m going to go over to my customer account at jvzoo where I have already purchased the product you can see. I have several products off jvzoo that I’m evaluating and trying out, and so on, and one of them down here is a FUNNELKITGO developer license. You can click on viewing the details and within the details is to access your product.
This also tells me where I can get help on the product I just purchased, and once I click on that it’s going to ask me to create an account, but I already have one.
If you want to create one all you got to do is fill out this information, and it will create a brand new account for you. Since I have one I’ll go ahead and I’ll log in here. Let me type in my password and now we could use our password and let’s say remember me so that it keeps remembering me and won’t have me log in again.
The first page that it brings you here is home where it’s saying, “Thank you” for logging in and stuff like that. It’s probably trying to talk you into various upsells and so on. Don’t go for the upsells on this product, you don’t need it. All you need is a basic product. The upsells aren’t worth it. I’ve got the upsells and trust me, they’re not very good.
What we do is we go to FunnelKitGo, and we go to download plugin, and what it’ll do is it’ll give us an area here where we can click on download the plug-in, and it’ll ask us where we want to save it. I saved it in my download area and I’ve already downloaded it once so I got a funnelkit thing down here in my download, so I’ll cancel this one. The other important thing to do is to copy your unlimited domain key.
I will right click on this and I will copy it, and I’ll use it later once I install funnelKit GO. That’s it. Once you’ve downloaded funnelKit GO and you’ve got the developer license key, then the next step is to go over to the WordPress site where you want to use funnelKit GO.
Here we are at the website in which I want to install funnelKit GO. It’s already installed but I’m going to show you what you have to do to install it if I go to plugins, I’ll go to installed plugins-- either that or click on new plug-in because I’m going to add new, and then I will say upload plug-in, and I’ll go to choose file, and I’ll go to my downloads directory where I’ve got funnelKit GO. There it is funnelkit. I’ve also got the funnelkitgo-club you won’t have it, but all you do is you double click on this to upload it and you will load the plug-in.
It will then ask you if you want to activate it. Yes you want to activate funnelKit GO. Once you do that, it’ll create this funnelKit GO menu item that will give you options for working with funnelKit GO. One of those options is license down at the bottom. This is the final step that you have to do.
This is where we’re going to paste in that license key that we got on that previous web page. Remember when we got this license key here? Okay, you’re going to copy it and then you’re going to paste it in to this license key area, and that will activate your developer license or whatever license you purchased. Personal licenses will work the same way.
Once you perform these steps funnelKit GO will be installed and ready for use. Now the next thing that we’re going to do is we’re going to go to all the pages. I have some pages defined here and it shows them listed, and gives you the option to edit the page, to view it, or to make a copy of it.
We’re going to create a brand new page here by going over to the far right and starting a new campaign.
When you begin a new campaign it throws you into a default configuration for a page that doesn’t have much. It has a solid white color on the page and you can see here that funnelKit GO is breaking down the configuration of the page into; the background, the layout, the opt-in, the content, and the final touch.
These are the major areas you’re going to work in.
So let’s look at the background first. funnelKit GO has some really neat features here. One is that you can have satellite and roadmap views that will show you a map in the background of the area where the person interacting with your squeeze page is from. It uses the IP address to tell what town or city that they’re near and then it displays a Google map in the background of that.
This is a little sophisticated. I haven’t found a use for it yet and it slows your page down a little, so I don’t really use it. I do use images. If you pick an image, you can go and you can upload an image or pick one from your library. We’re going to want something that’s kind of wide but also tall. Let’s go with this.
So we pick the image that we want or we upload one just like any other WordPress page. We have the option of stretching the background to fit the whole background or we can have it repeated vertically and horizontally. If you have a tiled background you can tile it. You can also pin the background so that it doesn’t scroll. Let’s go ahead and do that so we’ve got a nice-looking image in the background now, and we’ll pin it and stretch it.
Let’s go ahead and notice they have a preview button here. What I recommend that you do instead of preview is the first time when you create a page go ahead and save and close it, and it’ll ask you to give it a name.
We’ll call it Sample Page and we’ll go ahead and we’ll save that, and notice that we now have a Sample Page here and beside it is a thing called View.
What that will do is it’ll open a brand new tab up here where we’re viewing the page. Here is our background image. Notice that it stretched it to fit the entire thing. If I had a scrollable section here of data, the background image would stay fixed while the scrollable area scrolls.
Let’s go back and start editing the sample page some more. That was pretty much the background.
There’s other things that you can do, you can have a solid color, you can have a gradient color -- going from one color to another in the background -- but I like images. As I said to you, you can have satellite views based on the location of the person that’s interacting with the page.
Let’s go look at the layout tab.
With the layout tab that does is it defines the overall background box -- the big box that we’re going to put things in -- and you have a basic decision here of whether you want to go the full width of the screen, or you’d like a boxed width which will fit smaller within the screen. You can also decide if you’d want a background on it. Let’s go with a boxed width so I can show you what I’m talking about, and we’ll say we want a background color white, and let’s give it an opacity of say 70 so you can see through it a little bit. Let’s give the thing rounded corners; the border size will be 0, so we won’t have a border.
The position can be at the very top of the page or we can make it a certain number of pixels from the top. Let’s start at about a 100 pixels down. There we go. We can enable an outer glow. This makes things look interesting. The size of the glow you can control and you can control the color of the glow, but it makes the box interesting.
Let’s go ahead and save this first and it’ll say okay, this has been saved. Once you do that, you can go back to your view of the page and reload it, and now you’ll start seeing what’s inside of it. Unfortunately, we don’t have any data in this page so we’re not seeing what’s inside the box.
Let’s go back and now that we’re done with the layout, let’s go to the content.
The content is where you define all of the content that’s going to be on your page, and you organize the content using columns. This is going to be fully responsive so if you have multiple columns going across those columns it will fold and become one column when it is viewed on a small screen device such as a phone. Let’s go ahead and we’ll create one master column. This is usually the way you do it, you say give me a column, and all I’ll start doing is inside of it.
Here we have three controls on it. First it’s to delete it and this one is to copy it, and this one is to edit the configuration of the column.
Let’s go ahead and edit it and up comes the column configuration. This is a full-width column its full width within our boxed width for the page layout, and the background color for it is this. Let’s say no background color.
That sounds good. If we save that now let’s go ahead and save and see what we have in our view.
We still don’t have anything because we don’t have data there.
Let’s go ahead and we’ll throw something in here. We have one column, let’s make it the text that we want here and we want a big header. Let’s go and configure that text. Within here you’re going to be very familiar with the editing of the text. It’s just like the editing of text in Word press. We’re going to give it a title. This is the title. We can select this text, we can make it a particular font type, we can increase its size, we can change its color. Let’s go ahead and make this a goldish kind of color. Sure. We’ll go ahead and save it.
The other thing I wanted to do here was, since this is a title, I would like this to be centered. There we go.
When I finally save this, we have something on the page so we should see our box. Let’s go ahead here and we’ll view it. Here it is.
Here’s what our box looks like and you can see here’s the kind of haze that we gave it of 10 pixels going out on the box, maybe you don’t like the haze, maybe you’d like it to be a black haze rather than a white haze, and here’s our text for the box.
Let’s go back and maybe on layout, I wasn’t that thrilled with the glow here. I’d like it to be less. Say a 10 pixel size and in color I’d like it to be black. Let’s put a black haze on it and see what that looks like. We’ll save that and we’ll go back and view the page. We’ve got a dark kind of haze on the box.
I think that this looks much better. I’m not thrilled with this blonde and stuff like that, but we can work on it. I believe you’re beginning to get an idea of how we build this page.
We keep adding columns, we add text, and images. Let’s go and see some of the things that we can add here in content.
First of all, right after this text let’s have two columns, so we just insert two columns here, and here they are now.
We can also put a vertical spacer between this header text and our double double column, go in and configure how many pixels are in this vertical spacer. Let’s make that 10 pixels. We go ahead and save that and then let’s say in this double column we want an image on the left, so let’s pull down an image, and we want text on the right.
We’ll pull down the text and we’ll go configure the image and we’ll say okay, let’s let’s upload an image. It will take your image profile. Let’s put a picture of myself. There we go and we’ll save that. We can make this a link to a URL, we can change the size of the image which we do want to do. This is very large. We’ll go more like 300 by 300. There we go. Let’s say whenever people click on this URL, we want them to go to the Fitness Tech website. There we go so we put in the URL of the website and we save this.
There’s my image over here on the left and we can add some text to the right so we can configure that. I’m just putting in some bogus text here and let’s configure it up. We’ll go with Latos since we’ve been doing that, and we’ll up its size to 24 or something like that.
It is gold right now.
No, it isn’t. It’s black which is probably a good color and we’ll go ahead and we’ll save that. If I save this and I go ahead and look at our view our view should be becoming ever more interesting.
We can see that my image is way too big and the text is here. This is how you create pages on funnelKit GO. FunnelKit GO has exhaustive tutorials that come with it on how to use it. I’m just showing you this as kind of like a sales promotion to get you interested in it.
If we go here and I save and close, we can go and look at some of my other sophisticated forms such as the signup form where the content is much more sophisticated with vertical spacers, and so on, going down and multiple columns.
Hopefully that gives you an idea of how funnelKit GO can be used to create squeeze pages. I highly recommend that you follow their videos. It’s going to take you through every aspect of funnelKit GO. What you want to create is a Sign Up form and the standard naming that I use is whatever the list is and in this case, it’s Fitness Technology Newsletter Sign Up, Sign Up Thank You and Email Confirmation Thank You.
Those are the three pages that you’ll want and if you remember how we saw them you’ll remember the order they came in.
Sign Up is where you’re going to point people to and that’s where they’ll enter their emails. Sign Up Thank You will point them to look at their email to look for the confirmation email. When they click on the confirmation email then they will be displayed with the Email Confirmation Thank You page.
Those are the three pages that you want to create.
In the next lecture we’re going to look at how to configure MailChimp to use the three pages that you create using funnelKit GO.
Lesson Three: Using FunnelKitGo with MailChimp.
Hi and welcome back. I cut the last lecture a little because I realized I was getting into explaining how to use funnelKit GO and when you purchase funnelKit GO, it comes with a lot of videos that explain how to use it way better than I could.
Watch those videos. I’ve so far shown you how to create a rather ugly looking page but at least shown you the basics of it. I’m hoping tempting you enough to consider the product and go give it a try, and you’re going to find out how really simple it is to pull together really powerful looking pages. Much more powerful than you’ll use, then you’ll be able to create using the MailChimp supplied form builder.
They’re going to be much more interesting pages, they’re going to be fully responsible, of course, I’m sure MailChimp’s are as well but they’re going to be much more interesting, much more powerful. This is not an expensive tool at $50 when you consider that such things as lead pages cost hundreds of dollars per month to subscribe. In this lecture, I did not want to continue with how to use funnelKit GO to build a page, but I did want to get back to the more-- remember this is a MailChimp course. I want to get back to the MailChimp integration and I want to show you how to put the sign up part of the form here, and how to integrate that with MailChimp.
We’re going to talk about how to get MailChimp to display each of the squeeze pages up to the Email Confirmation Thank You page.
Let’s begin with how to get the opt-in form here. Here’s the page and we’ll go back to our administrative interface where I will go and edit the sample page.
We skipped over this in the previous section. I don’t think we even made it to the final touch yet and we’ll do that. We skipped over this section called OPTIN. Let’s go ahead and we’ll click on OPTIN and what it does is, that’s right.
It just asks us for the HTML code and you look at this and you’ll go this is quite simple, and what we’ll do is we’ll use this first, but what you really want to do to get the full features-- look at this. Look at how it all unfolded just from checking that box is you want to check that box to configure the form, so first we’re going to show you the ugly form. Let’s go ahead and here’s the HTML for the form.
We go to our list-- let’s go over to MailChimp where I have my two lists, and I’ll go here to the Fitness list, where I want to click on Sign Up forms.
This is where I’ll define all the Sign Up form. You’ve already seen this before when we added a Sign Up form to-- well, we just had a dedicated one and when we added one to a WordPress site. We’re going to do more WordPress type things here and that’s the way I make web pages nowadays. I hope you do too. I hope you don’t mind the lean towards WordPress. We want to embed the Sign Up form into our squeeze page, so obviously embedded forms are what we want.
We will go there once we click on the Sign Up form, now here’s an example of the embedded form over on the right. It has a title, it says required fields, it has an email address.
Here’s how we’re going to get a very simple sign up form. Quite ugly and this is the way it’s going to look when we pasted it, and the code to enable it, so when it was asking for the HTML code on our funnelKit GO page this is the code it was looking for.
Let’s go ahead you click on it, it highlights, you right click, up comes the context menu where you say copy, and now we’re going to go back over to funnelKit GO who’s asking for the HTML code. We’ll click here and we’ll right-click and we’ll do paste as plain text. It looks like there’s virtually nothing that got pasted here but a lot got pasted here.
I’ll come back to this later but we’re going to look at this code again to make a minor modification to the code otherwise you don’t care what the code is. Just ignore it. By the way, you can expand it to be able to see the code by grabbing this little box in the lower right hand corner. This is standard on all WordPress applications.
We’re going to go ahead and we’re going to save this. What this does is it saves the OPTIN FORM that we’re to use, but that OPTIN FORM is still not on the page. In fact if we go to the page and we update it it looks exactly the same because we haven’t yet added the OPTIN FORM. What we did was we defined what the OPTIN FORM is.
Let’s go here and go back to the content. Notice that one of the things that I can add over here on the right these are all the things I can add is OPTIN FORM. There we go. That’s the missing step.
We throw that in here, on the right just below the text. I know it still looks a little goofy, and by the way, we need a vertical space or down here. Maybe 10. I’m doing this much slower than usual because I’m explaining everything that I’m doing but this goes very quickly to build these pages. This is really an incredible application funnelKit GO. It’s the simplest that I’ve ever found to create really wild looking OPTIN pages.
Let’s go ahead and save this and then display it. There we go. The OPTIN FORM should show in over here and the right in this big blank area, and there it isn’t doesn’t it look horrible?
This would not prompt anyone to want to sign in if they see this page, but what if we could configure the OPTIN FORM? Remember how horrible this looks up front.
What I wanted to do before was while we’re in OPTIN, here’s our code, what you can do is you say enable custom styles.
This is when you make the OPTIN FORM look decent. This is all pretty good and then eventually you have the final button here that’s pressed at the very end. Let’s go ahead and change this. We want this to be Sign Pp instead so what you do is you click on the browsing gallery and say SUBSCRIBE.
That’s the one I was thinking of and I do kind of like this yellow one. We’ve got black. Let’s do that again, it would be yellow. Subscribe. There we go.
Let’s go ahead and save that and see if our form has improved as a result, and if not let’s improve it further. What does our form look like? It looks much better with the subscribe button and the big input field.
There are still some problems with this that I could fix. I don’t like this white background and it would be nice if there’s some vertical spacing here, and it would also be nice if it said enter your email here. Let’s go work on that. First the white background, click on no background, and the form will have no background color right now you can see it’s set to white, and that’s why we’re seeing it. Next, when it comes to input fields, I like my font to be up-- no actually, that’s a pretty good font, and lato is good, and normal.
Yes, that’s all good but here, I’d like my field height to maybe be a little bit bigger, and maybe the field length a little bit longer. Let’s go ahead and we’ll save that and see what that is produced in our form.
That’s looking a little bit normal now that we don’t have that white background, it looks considerably better. We need some vertical space here and we need to say enter your email address. Let’s see how we do that.
First the vertical space. Notice here that on the subscribe button we have a top and bottom margin, so we can put them both to 10 to get a little bit of space here in between.
Let’s go ahead and save that. Let’s see what it looks like. By the way, this is the way I recommend you modify these forms. It’s just bit by bit and we need a little bit of space up here and you know I like more space than I put around the subscribe button.
We’ll see how to do that. I would do it with a vertical spacer so let’s go back here, and I would like the margins to be a little larger, so we’ll create those both as larger, and then we will go to the content, and you can see that it’s just displayed after the text. What we need is a vertical spacer and to insert that, you just grab the vertical spacer and drag it over here. I wanted it on the right side of the two columns and I’m going to make that 20.
Let’s go ahead and save that. I’ve got a little bit of space here and things are going to start looking good. The one thing that I don’t have is to enter your email here in the field.
The way that you do that, this is interesting. This is the one time that I’m going to have you look at this HTML that you cut and pasted into the OPTIN FORM.
There is a field here and if you scroll down you’re going to see if the name equals email. This is the field that is prompting for the email and it has this value = ” ” meaning nothing is in the value. Whatever you put in the value is what shows up on the form and that people replace it. I’m going to say enter your email here.
There we go and once we type that we can go down to the bottom and we can say save.
