Are you ready to start filming 30-minute long video courses in just an hour?
I’ll show you the exact equipment I recommend and the exact video production software, the software is OBS, it’s free, I’ll show you exactly how you can start doing what I’m doing producing your own 30-minute long video courses in just an hour of real time.
Teaching online is the number one activity I found to make money online and to become a full time entrepreneur. And this one video will help you make a very strong start and produce high-quality video courses like this.
I trust when you’re blown away by this you’ll smash that subscribe button on YouTube and turn those notifications on if you really want me to spend that a lot of you, you know a turn that follow me on Facebook and turn all those notifications on also.
What we’re going to cover in here is this will begin with a introduction telling you more about why you want to film 30-minute video courses even if you’ve been producing courses for a while, look at the best microphone setup, then we’ll look at the best camera setup.
Now if you’d like to get this you can buy it using a link in the description or the best way to get it is go for that Jerry Banfield forever all correspondence you get every course I make for life for one payment today.
You can also take every course of mine plus all the 300 courses on Uthena for $9.81 a month all the links for all this stuff is in the description.
Thank you very much for starting this with me.
What I’ve actually shown you here is how to make sales, your video courses just like I do if you want to sell your courses and build a following doing this kind of a preview video of the 30-minute course you’ve filmed is an exact way to do that. And I appreciate you helping support me with this today.
Let’s start the course off with the videos from the course.
Are you ready to see how I film a 30-minute video course and just one hour of real time today.
Being able to film quick video courses is an outstanding opportunity to teach people to share your knowledge and therefore to have the chance to be a full time entrepreneur online. Filming video courses has been the single best thing I’ve ever done in terms of my online career my job and thus I’ll show you how to do it right here yourself.
Why 30-minute video courses?
People are so busy these days. And then when people see huge the the courses, often the responses, “Whoa, I’m not even going to be able to finish that course why even started?” The 30-minute course is a very good length, because it’s appealing to people who look at it and say, “Yes, I’ll watch that entire course right now,” the key is to be able to do this in just an hour of real time. Because then if you want to film courses online and you’ve got an hour a day, you could literally film a course every single day of the week.
Even if you already had a full time job. Just it’s really important to be able to film a good quality course in a short amount of time to keep it accountable. I am using a stopwatch throughout this course to show you how much real time I’ve spent on it.
Now all I’ve got done beforehand is a thumbnail for this course which you could make a quick thumbnail in Canva yourself. For me my graphic design is terrible. If you can hire graphic designer to make thumbnails that can really help you out.
That said I’m doing the rest this course I have no outline. I’ve done nothing but think about it a little bit to plan it, I’ll show you exactly how long it takes in real time to actually get the course done from start to finish.
Now by done I will mean to have the videos up and write the text that you’ll be able to put it on any different platform and sell it there. Thus, your project for this course is to do as I’ve done once you see this, make your own course that’s 30-minutes long, and just an hour of real time. And here’s the thing, if you’re not a veteran of filming courses like me, it might take you two hours of real time it might take you three or four hours real time.
But that’s alright. What I’m giving you here is a process to film your courses really fast, at the best quality in the least amount of time. That’s ultimately what we’re going for. If you want to make courses online best quality in the lowest amount of your real time.
That way you’re freed up to do other things. Are you ready? I am excited to share this course with you.
Let’s begin and look at the equipment you will need to film.
The first piece of equipment I recommend to get is this Shure SM58-s microphone bundle.
The microphone is a critical component of having a quality online course. Now I’ve got about $1,000 setup that I’m using. But what I’m showing you is a much cheaper option to give you the very best audio quality at the lowest cost using your built in microphone or using your cheap headset.
These are really bad options because the audio quality is one of those subconscious signals that people get that says either this is good or bad. A lot of us are used to listening to very high quality audio. And we’re immediately turned off when we hear really nasty or yucky audio.
A lot of amateurs and beginners like me try and compensate for this by using all editing software. And this is the opposite approach you want to take for filming a course in the least amount of time. Why? Because as two new instructor I just talked to the other day, they spend one-minute recording and then five minutes editing on average and this is unsustainable.
That’s why I’ve set this up, you film an entire course that’s 30-minutes long and just an hour, you do not have time to screw around editing your audio, here’s how you do it, you get a microphone where the audio sounds good, as soon as it comes in.
Once you’ve got an audiosetup, that sounds good. As soon as you record it, you don’t need to edit it with enough practice especially you will talk naturally and from the heart. But we’ll talk more about that in a second. The key thing is that your audio will come in good enough where you don’t need to put all these audio post processing effects on it. I recommend this microphone, because it’s a classic. This is what you see people we’re using on stage, it’s good at not picking up a bunch of background noise.
It’s good at directly taking your voice from your mouth and talking into it. This comes with a stand and it comes with the cables.
Now the other thing you’ll need for this is an audio interface.
So an audio interface you’ve got right here, this audio interface the focus right Scarlet solo 2i2 this audio interface here will give you the ability to actually get this microphone into your computer.
So you will need to get this microphone into your computer using this USB audio interface. So you buy the microphone, and this USB audio interface. And that’s a total of about $250 in audio equipment.
However, that is a massive boost to your credibility, a massive boost to your quality, and it’ll give you solid sounding audio where you don’t need to edit it at all. You see if I’m filming the course of 30-minutes long and an hour of actual time. And I’m including the planning the outlining of the course the filming of all the videos, and then the even getting the upload started.
If you’re going to do that, you don’t have time to do any editing at all. I’ll talk to you more about that but you’ve got the setup right here. Once you’ve got this audio, then you’re ready to get the video in and once you get the video in, you’ve got everything you need.
For the second key component of recording, I recommend have your face on there I much prefer seeing people’s faces if they’re making a video class and this is the webcam I recommend to do it with the Logitech C 930e.
This is under $100 at least for me in the US and it gives you a much better quality lots of times than using a laptop microphone or you don’t you it’s comparable quality to paying a lot more. For other cameras This will allow you to just plug straight into the computer via USB then you’ll have a pretty good picture and if you get the Logitech Camera Settings app, then you can control the color and the balance.
Then if you get a pull up Chroma key in the background, I’ve actually got a green painted wall behind me. But if you get a pull up Chroma key, it’s just like a little projector screen except it’s a green screen. So you can just search for pull up Chroma key. You combine this with your Logitech C930e camera, and you’ll have a good looking backdrop that you can easily go into an edit and have a chroma key.
This will give you the appearance of a professional like me. And you can see this only costs only for something that can make you a lot of money like filming video courses, this cost less than $500. In fact, this plus the microphone is about $350 that’s all the equipment you really need to do a good job with this filming setup.
Now, once you’ve got the camera, the audio and ideally, the green screen might be another $150. So you can get that for $500. Then for $500 you will have a filming setup that can make you a lot of money in video course sales and ad revenues that can help you build a following. And that gives you everything you need to be a full time entrepreneur online or to be on your way there.
Now that we’ve got the equipment setup, let’s take a look at the software.
For your video filming software where you put together your camera, you put together your microphone and you put together your screen. The best option is named Open Broadcaster Software.
You can see it right here it goes by OBS for short, this is what I use to film my video courses after initially filming with Camtasia because OBS is free, and OBS is made for live streaming. But what’s really nice about OBS, is the ability to very quickly adjust to what you’re doing in real time. Like I can move my camera angle here in real-time.
This is a powerful feature. And most importantly, when I film a video on OBS, the rendering is done as soon as I hit the record button.
This is my secret really, that allows me to film videos so fast, I don’t have to render them. When you use something like Camtasia you to record and you screw around and edited a bunch. And then you need to render it that takes a lot of time.
When I just literally hit start, start talking, keep talking forever. And then I hit stop. I’m done. I’m ready to upload my video as soon as I’ve hit stop. And that takes things to the next level.
And the beauty of it. This is for free, you don’t even need to buy anything. So we go to OBS Studio here you can see it’s on Windows, Mac, and it’s on Linux is very easy to bring your kids camera and your audio and, and pull all different types of sources and to make minute high quality adjustments to give your picture a really good touch.
So once you’ve got OBS downloaded and set up, then the key thing to do next is configure it. So I’ll go in here with you. And we’ll look at some of the basic configurations.
The first thing you have an OBS, you have scenes. Now before you even do that, you may want to go in here and check your settings. So the settings option is on the lower right now if you really want to go try-hard like me, you can what I’m using is the El Gato stream deck.
This allows me to dynamically move my face around the video.
I can even put video things like subscribe to my channel, I can trigger I can move my video around in real time, which is really cool. I’m doing that by the El Gato stream deck switches between scenes here for me.
So this gives me the ability to take things to the next level. But before you get to that point, you hit settings up here.
And what you need to do is make sure your videos set up in the correct way I recommend Make sure your base Canvas resolution in your output scaled resolution is 1920 by 1080. And your common FPS values are 60. That gives you the highest quality video, then on the audio over here, you just need to make sure your microphone is in the correct source.
Now if you bought the right one I recommended it will say Scarlet something and that will be where your microphone is. Now you could put if you wanted to mano on it might be nice but and then you can go over to output here. But this is only if you’re live streaming. So you don’t need to do that. So once you’ve got your video over here, you can go into advanced if you need to. But you really don’t need to you just set the video up correctly.
Then you get the record, you hit the recording button on here, you can see it says stop recording down here,
you hit the record button and just start talking. Now once you’ve got that configured, and you’ve got your video correctly set up, then it’s really easy to move things around and configure panels. The first key thing you want to do is add your camera as a source and whatever your first scene is.
So in your first scene, you will go over here and add your camera. So you put you hit the plus sign, and then you will put in video capture device.
And that should be your camera. If it’s a USB camera, it should show up as one of the devices in there. So once you add your camera in, then it’ll look something like this. So if I hit it like this, it has the resolution 1920 by 1080 at it as a device name now since I’m actually using a Canon XA11 into a capture card, that is it’s called USB capture HDMI now that setup costs around $1500 dollars. But this gives me a significantly better picture than using that Logitech C930e, which I do because I’m a professional and I do this all the time, it makes sense to spend that extra money on it.
I have the 60 frame right here, I hit cancel on that. Now the next thing, the key thing to do on the camera is to put a filter and if you’ve got the green screen and do the chroma key, and the OBS chroma key runs pretty good straight up at the default settings.
I turned the contrast up a little bit to give myself a little bit more color. And what’s cool. If you want to turn off the chroma key, you can just hit this button. And now look, you’ll see the Chroma keys off.
And what you can see now is where my green screen actually is. So if I move myself out here, you can see this is what it really looks like with no chroma key.
And this why OBS is awesome, you can change all this stuff in real time. So you’ve got you’ve got chroma key, you can see on these different size scenes that I’m using where the actual green screen is. And then when I go, I go put it up over here and I go over to filters and I turn the chroma key back on, then everything is all set back behind me.
Now once you’ve got your camera in and your audio in you may need to sync them, this is one of the key things to make sure your mouth is speaking and exactly at the same time your audio is going off.
So what you can do to do this is to do a quick clap test.
So you do a quick clap test. And you make sure that your hands, you hold your hands up to the camera, you make sure your hands touch at the exact same time in the recording that you’re that the audio is spiking, you can do this with audio editing program, I use Final Cut Pro X, all I do is I take it in, I make sure that the audio spikes right when my hands touch.
And what I found is 115 milliseconds, or about a 10th of a second difference by default. So make sure your lips line up, make sure your clap test lines up exactly to where your lips really are.
Now, if you’re using a USB camera, this might not be an issue. But with me, I’ve got a little bit of lag because I’m using the Canon XA 1 into a capture card and I’ve got 115 millisecond difference, which is enough to annoy me if I watch someone else like that in OBS, or any program, make sure your audios lined up. And the beauty of doing it this way is once you set it up this way it’s lined up this way in definitely you never have to change it, you just go into advanced audio properties, your sink offset is done.
And you calculate that based on the frames. So if it’s 60 frames per second, you calculate the seconds based on the frame difference. So mine was off about a 10th of a second about six or seven frames is what it was off. And then I just put that in there.
Now in order to get your background on. So we’ve got the microphone and the camera connected. In order to get your background on the last thing you need to do is add a monitor. So if you hit plus on here, and you pick up on a not you can do individual browsers on here, you can do a display capture, what you want to usually do is do a display capture, if you had a display capture, it will allow you to pick up an entire monitor.
And then you can easily pick up one monitor or another you can crop it if you need to. But the basic thing to do is hit plus and hit display capture. And once you’ve hit display capture, then you’re set. All you do from here is move yourself around. So for example, if I want to change the size of this, I can just do drag this to different sizes.
So let’s say I want to make this bigger, I can drag it there. Now be aware you can’t undo stuff like this lots of times. So if you do that, then it can make it slightly off. So you can just drag this you can also right click and go to transform, you can always go to reset transform anytime you want to and that will put you back to the default.
And then if you’ve got something else, like I can go to the small, right and I can hit transform and I can hit Edit transform. And this will give me the ability to put things in exactly the right position.
This way, I can see exactly what size it is. And then you can also shrink it or you can expand it. So if I go over the properties, that’s the display one. If you are not seeing the selection, make sure you’re on the right source. So I was not on the right selection over here, then I can see the exact size that this is over here on that one.
So for example, I wanted to match it up there I could, but OBS is so cool. You could just literally drag yourself exactly how big you want it put yourself in there. You can even do this in real time while you’re recording.
You can also add some color fields. If you’ve got a website you can put things like that up there. If you’ve got something like a YouTube channel, you can put something like a little background artwork asking people to subscribe on it, there’s a ton of things you can do in OBS to take your setup to a beautiful professional level I’ve given you all the basic details that you need in order to set the the foundation up where you can then film courses and just crank them out without having to spend a bunch of time editing.
Now that I’ve shown you how to set the equipment up from the audio equipment, the video equipment and then the actual software that puts it all together. Now talk about some more of the soft skills you need in order to actually use this equipment successfully to make a course.
