We are going to buy and install LearnDash on our WordPress website here because LearnDash is the best learning management system I found online, and selling video courses is the best way I’ve found to make money online.
Therefore, we want to see exactly how to install LearnDash from start to finish. If you’re new to LearnDash, I’ve done the research after years of teaching online, LearnDash is the number one option for a learning management system.
A learning management system allows me to take my videos and put them into courses on my WordPress website at jerrybanfield.com, then I’m able to turn them into courses.
If you look at jerrybanfield.com/courses, I’ve just gotten started with this process and I documented the whole way on buying and installing LearnDash.
LearnDash is awesome and why I love it is it gives me the ability to have courses directly on jerrybanfield.com instead of having it on a subdomain, or instead of having it on a different domain because for making sales, for being able to sell other products and services, I’ve learned the very hard way, how important it is to put everything on the same domain to make it easy for customers to actually make the purchase.
Therefore, I am so grateful that LearnDash makes it so easy to get started with having my courses directly on jerrybanfield.com.
Let’s take a look at how to buy and install LearnDash. If you want to buy LearnDash, you can click on pricing, the pricing is pretty straightforward.
It’s $189 a year, the license that includes “ProPanel,” which has additional reporting, and I went for that.
However, the minimum option is $159 a year here, if you’d like the absolute lowest cost, and if you got clients who want to manage, it’s currently $329 a year. You pick whichever one of these you want, you click on, “Add to cart,” then you’ll get these subscriptions up here, you’ll get a page that looks just like this.
You need to put your name, email, credit card information in here, agree to the terms, and then what you get on the next page is this, a purchase confirmation and downloads.
You’ll see when you’ve got the ProPanel version I got, it’ll say, “Download, LearnDash and download ProPanel.”
Then, I click on download both of those, and while that’s downloading, I also go look at my license details. This shows me my license key, which is what I need to actually activate and make the plugin work.
Then, I go check my email, and I’ve also got the link to the Facebook group here, which is great for asking questions.
The guides for getting LearnDash installed are very helpful because there are a lot of different moving parts and integrations that make all this work.
Therefore the email is very helpful for that.
I highly recommend that you back up your website before doing this.
I use Kinsta for my web hosting, for WordPress, is extremely fast. I’ve used it for several years. If you’d like to use Kinsta yourself, I trust you go-to jerrybanfield.com.
Click on, “Resources.”
Click on, “Try Kinsta.”
I will get an affiliate commission when you use my link. I’ve researched it the hard way by trying web hosts that don’t work, that aren’t fast, Kinsta has my WordPress website on the Google Cloud, which is the same hosting that Google uses to run its rapid infrastructure.
Kinsta handles the process of getting my WordPress content on the Google Cloud and gives me instant scalability. It makes it so easy, I just click on backups. I go do manual, I hit back up now, and this gives me my point to where I back up my whole website just in case something goes wrong with LearnDash before putting the plugin on it.
The first time you put a plugin on a website and break it where it won’t load anymore, you really learn to do a backup beforehand.
Kinsta also does automatic backups as well.
Once I’ve got the website backed up, I go to, “Plugins.”
Click on, “Add new.”
Then, I just grab LearnDash and hit “Install Now” on it after uploading the plugin.
Then this is what it looks like, next go to “Activate Plugin.”
Then it’ll give this red warning: “License your plugin in order to start using it.”
Go to “Click here.”
You get your email and your license key where I showed you before, put that in.
Then it’s active.
What I’m showing you next here is within the Astra WordPress theme.
Astra is one of the top WordPress themes. It’s very fast, which is critically important for search engine optimization.
You want your website to be really fast in order for it to rank high, because if your website is slow, users will back out and not actually read or even load your content, immediately leave your website, and Google says that this website isn’t good.
Therefore, you combine the Kinsta web hosting with the Astra WordPress theme, and Astra has built-in integrations with both LearnDash and Lifter LMS, an alternative to LearnDash.
There’s a WooCommerce integration as well, which is outstanding because we want to use WooCommerce to actually sell our LearnDash courses to give us the best experience.
We’ll go into that a bit later.
If you’re using the Astra WordPress theme, all that’s critical is to click, “Activate.”
It puts in very specific features for LearnDash that allow me to do things like have a homepage on my website featuring my online courses, and to have a specific theme or layout of my website that is optimized for my online courses.
The next thing I do then is go over to my plugins, I click on, “Add new.” I put the LearnDash ProPanel in, and this gives me access to the enhanced reporting I bought for an extra $30 a year, using the same plugin installation process we just did a minute before.
After that, then I go over to plugins, click on, “Add new.”
This time I go over to “Astra Starter Sites.”
This is where I get the theme to have a LearnDash specific Astra layout on my website.
I click on, “Install Now.” Put that on.
Then, the next thing I do is go over and grab “Elementor.”
Elementor is a page builder on WordPress.
I click on, “Install Now,” and put that on.
This not only allows me to customize where things are laid out. It also will allow me to do my own funnel. I’ll be able to design my own landing pages, checkout pages, and thank you pages, upsells, downsells, et cetera. I have a full funnel completely hosted on my own website, thanks to this setup.
Once I’ve got to Elementor installed, then the next thing I grab is the LearnDash Course Grid.
The LearnDash Course Grid is what allows me to display course cards for all my courses, which is essential on pages like the homepage or a landing page where I can send people to, like jerrybanfield.com/class. Then, all the courses are laid out right there and make it easy for people to browse.
Then, the next thing I will do is go through and install WooCommerce on my website.
Now, this is a big tutorial by itself and therefore, I will record another video for installing WooCommerce on WordPress.
The advantage of this setup is I’ve got a powerful e-commerce solution on my website now, that allows me on many different URLs, landing pages, someone can go to jerrybanfield.com/courses to see all courses.
Then this is using LearnDash right here, they can click on, “Take this course.”
Then it gets added into the cart.
This is with WooCommerce, and when you check out, that is done through WooCommerce and it links it directly back to LearnDash, all then having the orders and the payments everything directly on my website.
Now, these WooCommerce checkout pages are not very good and what we will do later is even get a better sales funnel process to get all of this super smooth.
All the videos on this are actually unlisted or public videos on YouTube because that gives me free video hosting and if you calculate the price on this, $189 versus having to pay much more somewhere else, having free video hosting is really good.
Thank you very much for watching or reading all the way through this tutorial on how to buy and install LearnDash.
I hope this has been helpful for you, and I’ll see you soon.
