I Kept Hoping for a Chance to Be a Hero

I Kept Hoping for a Chance to Be a Hero

This is an excerpt from my memoir, Officer Banfield — the honest story of my years as a corrections and police officer, hitting bottom in alcoholism, and the long road to recovery.

He said, "Look, you are a big man and we're going to need you to come with us nice, or we're going to need to tase you if you don't come with us nice."

So this guy came with us real nice. We dropped him off at the mental health facility also.

This is your version of cops with USCPD with Jerry Banfield.

Now, these are some of the most interesting stories of a year and a half or so as a police officer at USCPD.

As you can see, if you have had my friend who has worked in real law enforcement, all of these stories combined would probably be one of his most boring days at the local department.

He had so many good stories he literally could hardly even remember

them. He only remembered the newest ones usually, or the craziest ones because there were so many.

But this is my life, this is my experience and that's just my truth for it. So, if this bored the shit out of you, maybe you got a laugh out of it.

I find today that it's hard for me to get bored by something if I'm just really listening and entertained by it.

So I hope this has entertained you.

I'm grateful for the chance to share these stories with you. These are my stories at USCPD where I'm very grateful today that I got through all the stuff I've shared here with you.

Most of the nights at USCPD were really quiet, really laid back, not that much happened while I was there. I used to hope that something would happen while I was on duty though, some chance to be a hero.

I really wanted that chance because I felt like such a devil, such a villain, and I thought life would give me a way to prove I wasn't just a piece of shit who was drunk driving and using people. I was carrying a lot of darkness back then.

I'm grateful today that there was a peaceful time while I was on campus and now I'm a peaceful person, and that's the message I've got to share today.

So I appreciate you reading these stories with me at USCPD.

I started the book off with the stories that concluded my time at USCPD.

So I think we have gotten through most of the interesting stories. I love you.

You are awesome and thanks for getting this far into the book.
