ICP Could Stay Cheap for Years. We Don’t Have to Wait.

Internet Computer Protocol could stay cheap for years. Now that I've broken out of just being in the ICP bubble and I'm back into being more involved in the rest of crypto, I am seeing the necessity that we need to make some change. Otherwise we could be completely right about ICP, about the technology, about how amazing it is and how much it's going to change the world, and the price could still stay around $2 to $5 for the next several years while Bitcoin moves, Ethereum moves, Solana moves, and, God forbid, XRP moves again. This could happen. And at the same time, we can take action to change the future. We're not helpless. We're not just sitting here without the ability to do anything.

The trajectory we're currently on

So first, let me set up the way we are currently going. The reality is that the ICP price on average has dropped ever since release. Even if you take out the initial release, ICP's average price has consistently decreased over time. And there's no reason that should change until you have a lot of usage by governments and companies and entrepreneurs like me, who've built my website, jerrybanfield.com, on it. Now, I know I've been very optimistic about ICP in the past, and my ICP thesis about the technology is the same one that Bobby O is sharing: all the technology is in place, it really matters, and it is getting adopted. But as Bobby says in some of his videos, this could take five, six, seven years for governments to seriously get onboarded to ICP. Not just doing a test pilot, but getting to where they're spending hundreds of thousands of dollars a day hosting their infrastructure on ICP. And that's what we're going to need to seriously, seriously move the price against the opposition.

Most of crypto is funded by marketing

Right now, most of crypto is funded by marketing. That's why crypto prices move. Most crypto prices are funded by marketing and by usage, and the usage is driven by marketing. For example, I'm on MaxFi on Robinhood Chain, and this is a perfect example of marketing and money moving. I've got these positions on MaxFi. They're volatile and they go up and down. If you want to get into these, check out my Jerry Banfield Crypto Reviews videos on MaxFi and use my MaxFi referral link. These are just printing money. The positions are volatile, and the meme coins I'm putting liquidity into go up and down a lot. But that's where the action is. People are on Robinhood because Robinhood is a big US company with a global presence. They put stocks on the chain, and then there are all kinds of people getting into trading all of these. And it's all hosted on centralized infrastructure. If you're in the US, you can't even swap stocks on MetaMask, for example. It's blocked. We need ICP. But there's no incentive for everybody on Robinhood to come over to ICP. The money's there. The trading's there. The profits are there.

The rest of crypto is set up to try and make as much money for themselves as possible. And I've finally broken out of my shell. It's like, I'm going to go make money for myself in crypto too. I'm going to go where the action is. There's no incentive for the foreseeable future for the action to come to ICP. The only incentive for the action to come to ICP is for us to do some marketing and to show people this technology, because nobody in the rest of crypto is going to have any interest in showing people ICP technology.

For example, this is the kind of thing that's happening in the rest of crypto. I look at my yield: $200 a day on a $3,500 portfolio. Does anybody doing this have any incentive to go learn about the technology in ICP, when I can buy a few hundred dollars of wrapped ETH, throw it at a meme coin, and just start printing money like crazy? This is what the rest of crypto is doing. They're printing money and trading tokens and building everything on centralized tech. There's no motivation for anybody to talk about ICP when everybody's getting paid to do their own thing. Marketing is the only chance we have to break out of this, at least in the foreseeable future. The more infrastructure you have built on ICP, the more natural it becomes: the payments come straight into ICP and burn, and then we'll be able to get some price appreciation.

Are you comfortable waiting years?

Are you comfortable waiting years for that to happen? Would you be okay if the ICP price stayed in the $2 to $10 range for the next several years, while perhaps some of these other cryptos have huge breakouts, while you see all kinds of money being made on meme coins, while you see other layer ones pumping much more than ICP? I'm not. I'm not comfortable just sitting here doing nothing and hoping the price goes up based on people honestly reporting on the technology, when they have no incentive to do so.

What we need to do is do what we can. We need to support ourselves as a community first, which is why my call to action in every ICP video is that we need the Network Nervous System to print tokens for a public marketing fund that not just me, but anyone in the community and outside the community, could access. There are so many ways you could do it. You could take the maturity out of the undistributed rewards. You could lower the voting rewards. You could just add some additional inflation. You could tax the undistributed voting rewards, and there are a hundred million of those. You could start putting some of these into marketing. The node providers get paid. The voters get paid. And if we want to break out of where we're at in ICP today, let's look at the rest of life: insanity is continuing to do what you've been doing and expecting to get different results. Or you could argue the real insanity is continuing to do what you're doing, knowing you're going to get the same results anyway, and being unhappy about it.

I've helped start a marketing fund on a blockchain before

I helped get a marketing budget started on a blockchain before, years ago. The company behind it rugged it anyway. But if the company behind it hadn't rugged it, that growth fund was helping. Initially there was massive resistance to setting up the marketing budget fund, and what happened was the community was horribly toxic to me, all the same stuff you've seen in the ICP community. Then I sold everything, because I saw that the foundation was going to rug the coin, which they did, and they sold out. But somewhere around them rugging the coin and me selling out, somebody else in the community who had more power than me and a lot more money than me created the marketing fund themselves, and they took all the credit for it, when I was the one who spearheaded getting it done.

That's not going to happen in ICP, because I'm going to keep going after this over and over again. I can see what we're missing. What we're missing is price go up. What we're missing to get the price to go up is marketing. And the marketing we're missing is a publicly available marketing treasury. There's so much about the ICP technology that sets us apart, and our marketing funding should also set us apart. All the other blockchains are doing this on the down low: hey, I'll send you some tokens in your back pocket and nobody will know about it. Most of the marketing out there is happening on the down low. It's not publicly available. It's not publicly transparent. ICP has the ability to make something that gains a lot of organic attention in crypto by having a publicly transparent, organic marketing fund that content creators and projects from all over the place will come to trying to get some of. That will help move the price in most cases. And then when price moves, you have more money for marketing. It's a flywheel: the more marketing you do, the more the price moves, and the more the price moves, the easier marketing gets and the more money you have for it. But we're stuck in a negative feedback loop right now, and we need to break out of it.

DFINITY's marketing behind closed doors

DFINITY should be doing their own marketing. They can keep doing their own marketing privately, behind closed doors. But if we're looking at the price, their marketing behind closed doors has not contributed to ICP appreciating for ICP holders. We need to do something new if we want to get new results. Or, if you're comfortable waiting several years for the price to organically appreciate as governments like Pakistan and some of the new governments that get chosen through the UNDP fully materialize, come online, and start burning serious amounts of ICP, and then the whole rest of the industry is ready to wake up and move onto the ICP technology, then sure. If you're comfortable waiting years for that while everybody else in crypto is printing money and passing you by, and then using that printed money to keep marketing themselves, we can keep doing things the way we've been doing them. But if you want something different, we need to campaign. The community needs to take this up as a cause.

DFINITY is ultimately the one who's going to need to make this proposal, so that it is technically correct, accurate, and researched on the Network Nervous System. There's no point in me making a proposal until the irrationality, insanity, and scarcity thinking has been cleaned out of the ICP community. I'm disappointed, but not surprised, to see the insane reactions in the ICP community. But I am optimistic that with me persisting, this can change. This is the only thing I make ICP videos about going forward. To me, there's no point in covering ICP at all until we get our marketing right, and the Network Nervous System is the place to get the marketing right. Until we've got the marketing right, there's no point in me even talking about ICP. There's no point in me trying to bring anyone in crypto retail into ICP when there's no reasonable price appreciation that can be expected based on the current trajectory we're on for the foreseeable future. Marketing on the Network Nervous System can give us a way to change that.

I'm campaigning for other people to make more money

If you compare what I'm suggesting, that we should have thousands, maybe tens of thousands of dollars a day of ICP going into the marketing fund, I would get a small fraction of that. Everybody else collectively would get much more. I am campaigning for other people to make much more money, and for the people in the ICP community who create content to be supported first and foremost. Just like the node providers who keep the network running, and the people staking and voting on ICP who keep the Network Nervous System running, the people driving the conversation and marketing ICP need to be supported directly by the blockchain in the same manner. There's nothing else that matters in ICP right now, at least for the foreseeable future for retail. DFINITY has other stuff they're doing, and that's generally long term.

So I invite you to support me in this. You can support just by writing a post, leaving a comment, and making posts about how important this is. And argue with somebody. If you see somebody saying this doesn't matter, that Jerry's greedy and all this crap, and that I should just sell my ICP, argue with them. Take them down with your intellectual argument. Explain it. This idea that ICP's price should appreciate without marketing at any time in the foreseeable future is insane. To me, there's no reason to hold ICP in the foreseeable future if there's not going to be marketing. Now, I'm going to continue to hold mine for the long term. But for crypto retail, when crypto retail can go get gains like I'm getting, $200 a day, I don't see why crypto retail would sit on ICP when this is printing 20x a year right now. And that's on top of the value of the portfolio, which could go down or up also.
