Right now Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, and most other coins are dumping while ICP is starting to pump. I think that's a preview of where crypto is headed: almost every coin that isn't building on the Internet Computer drifts toward zero, while ICP — and any project that puts its infrastructure on ICP — keeps real potential. None of this is financial advice, despite the title; it's how I read the market after twelve years in it.
Most coins have no fundamental use
I've been in crypto for twelve years and researched thousands of altcoins, and the hard truth is that most of them solve no real problem for the world. I see all the narratives. If you don't like red charts, you should take the fragility seriously, because these assets are crumbling. And once the insiders calculate that retail finally understands this, they exit their positions first — and everyone still holding the rest of these coins is the one who gets hurt.
The specific problem with each major coin
Bitcoin. AI is now far more profitable than Bitcoin mining. Miners are starting to repurpose their operations from mining Bitcoin to running AI, and I think that's the beginning of real damage to Bitcoin mining economics.
Ethereum. Scaling has failed. The layer twos are a mess, and so much of the activity has moved off chain that the original promise is hard to find.
XRP. I bought XRP ten years ago, so I'm not throwing stones from the outside. The same narratives people push today haven't manifested in the last five years. It's all talk, and the token overhang is worse than almost anything else.
Solana. The only thing that drove Solana up was the meme coin craze and paying everybody to talk about it — and now it's dumping with the rest. Even a Solana VC has admitted there's not much there, and Vitalik has said that if crypto is just meme coins and speculation, it's going to fail.
Why ICP is different
ICP puts the entire infrastructure on chain and solves real problems. As I write this it's doing 111 blocks a second — thousands of transactions a second, the most of any blockchain I know of. My own website runs directly on chain at jerrybanfield.com, built with Caffeine AI. That isn't a whitepaper promise; it's live. I'm just ahead of the curve
Yes, I'm an ICP maxi. I figured out three years ago what I'm telling you today, and I've always been early with technology — teaching Facebook marketing in 2014, selling online courses before hardly anyone bought one, live streaming video games back in 2014 and 2015, and joining Facebook in 2005 long before most people had heard of it.
