A comment changed how I think about my entire business. It said: time is not a commodity people buy — what they buy is help. Focusing on selling your time is the wrong focus; focus instead on the final product and on delivering what you promised, and you won't have a scarcity of money or a shortage of customers. It stung, because the moment I read it I knew it was right.
The comment that stung
I'd been going around half-desperate for people to schedule calls, and that's exactly the trap. One guy texted me, asked for my old call rate but a shorter slot, and paid $20 for fifteen minutes — and we both felt bad about it afterward. I never should have taken it. What I need instead is one clear offer: this is the thing, this is where I show up, take it or leave it. Selling slivers of my time was never going to work.
What I can actually deliver
Here's what I can genuinely help with: a person's whole life turned around — losing weight, getting to the best health of your life, happy relationships, financial abundance. I can say that with a straight face because I've lived the turnaround. I've been overweight, in the middle of alcoholism, in toxic relationships, divorced, and at a far worse net worth than I'm at now. I changed all of it.
How I changed it all: community
And the honest answer to how I changed it is community. Getting sober, getting healthy, making my first million online — none of it happened alone. That was the breakthrough the comment forced: if community is how I transformed my own life, then a community is the single best thing I can offer other people. It's where I can help with all of it at once — making money with AI (I'm using Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini every day to turn my content into books and a custom model), group calls, a custom AI trained on my content for instant answers, and discounted one-on-one time.
One offer that represents everything
That's the shift: instead of a dozen ways to buy pieces of my time, one offering that represents the whole promise of transformation. It's the same conclusion I reached in my income and business plan — a simple, clear value proposition that's the same for everyone beats a confusing menu every time.
Abundance is a state, not a net worth
One more thing the turnaround taught me: abundance is a state of mind, not a number on a balance sheet. I feel genuinely wealthy right now even with a negative net worth, because of the options and access I've built and the way I think. Being able to be abundant before the bank account catches up is itself part of what I can help people learn.
So I'm grateful for the comment that made me face the harsh reality and zoom in on my best offer. For more on building a business as a creator, watch my YouTube coaching playlist here.
