Buying $2,100 More ICP Live on Coinbase
I am buying a thousand more ICP today, on August 5th, 2026, and I am showing exactly how I did it as I bought it on Coinbase. I think this is pushing me much faster towards being a crypto millionaire. Hopefully ICP will just go up a whole bunch and I'll be a crypto millionaire soon — and in my experience, that's a path any of us can take. Now, this isn't financial advice. This is exactly what I'm doing in my own account, in my own Coinbase account, and I bought the ICP in real time. Unfortunately, I put $2,100 on and the price pumped slightly, so it looked like I was only actually going to get 998 ICP. Can't you relate to wishing the price would go down when you want to buy and then go up when you want to sell?
How I Cut My Coinbase Fees in Half
A lot of you are paying too much on Coinbase to buy your ICP. So here's what you do: you turn on Advanced Trade on the left, then you go into the Advanced Trade view and you click on "post only." This will save you about half on the fee. Some of you would be paying $20, even $40, to buy an order this size, but I was only paying $12 in fees. What I did was click the order form and click "mid" so my order sits right in the middle of the order book, where it will execute a little faster. As the price changes, you can just click mid repeatedly, and make sure the toggle is scrolled over to mid. Then I clicked buy, and my order went in — sitting up there in the book, marked with the little X — and I let the order work on filling. If you'd like help with doing any of this stuff or moving your ICP around, I just had an hour-long call with someone yesterday. Join the Jerry Banfield Family and then let me know you want a one-on-one call. I'm happy to help with this.
Then, of course, the price decided to pump a tiny fraction of a cent and my buy order got buried. Somebody just sell! Where are all the longs that need to get liquidated when I'm trying to buy? I'm buying more ICP because I believe in what I'm saying in my videos. I know I might get wrecked. I know this might not go anywhere. But to me, if I miss this opportunity to buy, that's something I don't want to regret. I can accept being wrong, or maybe not having done enough research. But being in this position and missing out on this — to me, that would be totally unacceptable.
Since the price pumped fractions of a cent right when I was trying to buy, I ended up having to cancel that first order because I was trying to get the purchase to complete while filming live, and I missed out on a tiny fraction of an ICP. My mid order was now higher, so I hit mid again — and look at that, I was going to get about one ICP less. That's like a day of my maturity. Who else was buying right at that moment? Everybody stop buying while I'm trying to buy! I generally only go on Coinbase like once a month, when I want to buy ICP. I'm not on there posting and trading all these other coins. Buying ICP is the only reason I use Coinbase.
The Opportunity Is in the Accumulation
Nice — my order was sitting up at the top of the book. Come on, all you sell-side people, give me some of your ICP. Then other people were willing to pay slightly more for it than me. Lovely. And probably a significant portion of all this activity is bots — who even knows how much of it is real orders? It's funny: you want the price to go up for your portfolio, but then when you go to buy, it's "damn it, can't somebody push the price down? Somebody sell and red-candle it so I can buy." But that's exactly where the opportunity is — in the accumulation, when people don't think it's valuable. To me, now is a great time to accumulate at all-time lows. This, to me, is the place where you make money: buying now, and then later when the price is $20-plus. The price could be $10 by the end of the year, and today it feels a little risky buying another $2,100 of ICP — or at least trying to. I could have made the order execute immediately, but then I'd have paid $10 extra for it, and I'd rather just sit there and let somebody else cross the spread and pay the extra fee.
And imagine me selling some of this. What I was buying right there isn't even enough money to pay my rent. But imagine me selling all the ICP I bought today at $10 or $20. I'd feel like a real genius selling this in a few months for $10,000 or $20,000 and being able to pay my rent for several months, if not half a year plus. A lot of times, what looks like insanity — you might think, since I'm borrowing money to live and build up my YouTube right now, that it's insanity to be sitting there dropping a couple thousand dollars — turns out differently. And then somebody actually sold into my order: I got 15 ICP. It filled a little more — there went 82 more ICP. So you might think it looks like insanity to buy now, with the chart the way it is. But in my experience, the greatest opportunities tend to look insane at the time, and then you look like a genius later. I'm interested to see how this turns out, because it already looks insane. If it doesn't work, it's like, "well, that seemed like a good idea at the time." But if it does work, there's so much more to gain. The most I could lose is $2,100. And now I kind of wished I'd just put in a market order — I was getting impatient enough to just dump it into a market order and pay the double fee. I lost a couple of ICP I would have been able to get, and my order was now sitting way down the book with everybody else who wanted to buy too.
So the most I can lose is $2,100. But based on the huge amount of research I've done, I believe I could make tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of dollars on this purchase. That's the asymmetry. Now, the challenge is that when you go into other coins thinking the same thing, it may not be true — in my opinion, most coins in crypto are not asymmetric investments.
At this point the whole thing had turned into "watch Jerry wish he'd just posted a market order on Coinbase." This is why, ideally, you just put a buy order in, leave it there, and come back in a few days — but I was trying to film exactly how to do this. The price went from $2.092 to $2.093, so I just cancelled the rest of that order and tried to buy the remainder — only 978 ICP now, because I'd already gotten some. I put in another buy order at the top, willing to pay even more. It's funny — I remember buying Bitcoin like this when it was $170. Now it seems like it doesn't matter what you would have paid, whether it was $170, $200, or $300; looking back, it all looks like a great deal. And I think with ICP, whether you get it at $2, $3, $5, $10, $12, $15, or $20, I believe in the long term all of it is going to feel like a great deal. Then somebody finally sold ICP and filled my entire order. Thank you!
Moving the ICP to the Network Nervous System
Next I went into "manage funds" — making sure not to flash my bank account number or something stupid — and clicked on my recent address to send the ICP to. I now had 997 ICP, so technically, if we're rounding, I bought very close to a thousand ICP. I clicked on the ICP, clicked Max to send all of it to my address — and you can verify these transactions on the blockchain yourself. I clicked send, put my authentication in, and headed over to my Network Nervous System, where the transaction would appear shortly. All in, I paid about $11 or so in fees to buy this roughly $2,000 worth of ICP.
Over in the Network Nervous System, a new transaction was detected immediately. I'm up to 7,700, and I now have exactly 66% locked, which I think is ideal. I even got a notification on my phone from Coinbase. I just contributed to taking more of the supply off the exchange. If you look at my voting neurons, I actually have more locked up long term now — there's over 4,000 ICP effectively between the maturity that's been accumulating for years and the ICP in there. My short-term two-week bag could actually use a little bit more in it. I've got 2,900 there, and I don't think I'm going to be selling in the next two weeks. So what I did was top up that neuron. I calculated it out — I wanted to add so it comes across the board to 3,456.78, which meant I needed four digits plus two after the decimal. I entered the top-up amount, clicked confirm, and topped the two-week neuron up. That way the liquid ICP I just bought — nice, 3,456.78 — is now giving me a 2.21% interest, automatically compounding in there.
My Two-Week Neuron and Getting to 79% Locked
All I need to do if I want to unlock this is go down and click on the "start dissolving" button. As soon as I click start dissolving, in two weeks I'll get the principal plus the 8 maturity back — and in the meantime, this neuron will give me around 50 more maturity. So now I've got 79% of my ICP locked, a total of 1,700 liquid, and 6,700 that is locked. I'd like to get over 10,000 on here, and we're getting close. If you look in the old-school interface, I'm actually pretty close to 10,000 already if you include the other junk coins — some of them really are junk coins — that are on there. This time, though, it's almost all ICP instead of the other altcoins. We're now up to 9,183 ICP total.
Among the other tokens, I still really like OpenChat, WaterNeuron, and Gold DAO. That WaterNeuron position used to be worth like $10,000 when they gave it to me, and it's dropped down to $500 — that's so bad, it's off 95%. I wish I could have just sold my entire account back then with the WaterNeuron in it. But right now, only a tiny percent of my portfolio is in these other coins.
One Buy Away From 10,000 ICP
So how much more do I need? I'd like to have at least 10,000 ICP. I've got 1,792-plus locked ICP in that neuron, and really, if you include all the maturity, I've got 8,500 ICP plus another 700 or so worth of maturity. We're getting close to the 10,000 I'm looking to accumulate. And once I get to 10,000 and the price goes to $100, I'll be a millionaire from there. That, to me, is what taking action looks like — I took a step. I've been making one purchase of a couple thousand dollars of ICP every month, and this is what I'm up to now.
My portfolio used to be worth like $80,000, so I've lost tens of thousands of dollars based on what I've put into ICP versus what I've gotten out. Although I did sell $20,000 or $30,000 worth of ICP last year at around $5 or $6, so I'm really grateful for a chance to accumulate it again at $2. The more I accumulate at $2, the lower my average is — and when it goes back up, the faster I'm in profit. I'll keep you updated as I accumulate more. I'm really glad I'm only one more buy away, at $2, from getting over 10,000.
The Family and What's Next
I'm grateful we've got 22 people in the community now, with seven or eight people joining this week. When you join the Jerry Banfield Family, I'll know your name — if you're watching these videos, I should know your name, I should know who you are, I should know whatever you want me to know about you. You'll get access to all the posts from everybody in the group, and we've got a very strong ICP community in there; some of the people from OpenChat are getting in, and it's really nice to see them again. And if you want a one-on-one call, join the group and then message me that you want a call, and I can go over all the stuff I showed here with you. Especially if you're buying tens of thousands of dollars of ICP, in my experience the one-on-one call practically pays for itself if you want to save money buying on Coinbase and see exactly how to do that.
I hope the "crypto millionaire coming soon" arrives within the next year. If I've got to wait longer, I can live with it. If you want more Jerry Banfield, I've got six YouTube channels and I invite you to check them out. The Jerry Banfield Show has my vlogs — real, live, and personal. I've got a dating channel; if you're single, definitely watch the dating channel — even some of you who have partners enjoy the drama on there. If you're into games, I have some amazing gaming videos. I have music. If you're a content creator, I've got YouTube Coach. And I've got a couple of ICP channels — a great place to start is my ICP Crypto playlist.
