Trying 200 New Games
You are about to experience the Jerry Banfield Show. Woo! Let's go. I intend to try 200 games that I've never played before in 2021, and this is our ninth game. I've been a huge Star Wars fan, and if you've been a big Star Wars fan like me, I think you'll really enjoy seeing me play this for the first time. This is Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
I've been seeking clarity in what's the best thing for me to do for my live stream. I about fell off listening to myself talk. I've been seeking clarity in what to do with my live stream in terms of the games to play, and what I'm seeing is that getting into new games is essential. Getting into new things. Trying new things. It's essential to get out there and try new things, because the more we get out and try new things, the more we're expanding our mind and our brain and our realities. And the more we can do that, that's often where all those things we're looking for in life come from — getting into the unknown.
Alright, we're putting a couple things together here. Alright. Oh, fuck! Alright, first death. Here's my first death. I was hoping to avoid the first death for as long as possible, but there it is.
Well, my goal with playing all these new games is to expand my brain, my mind — and to help you do the same. To show you something new. Because it's in doing new things and trying new things that we find what we're looking for. Often what we're looking for is in the unknown, because if it was in the known, we would already make use of it. For example, I struggled to stay sober because I didn't know what I needed to do to stay sober. Once I started going out to Alcoholics Anonymous, then it started to become clear. But just doing that by itself wasn't enough. I had to get out there and try all these new things and expand. So I'm doing that, and I see it's time to do the same kind of thing with my gaming — expand my gaming out there and do the same thing with my live stream that I've done with the rest of my life.
Calling Myself a Professional Gamer
But what's most important is that whatever you call yourself and however you think of yourself is most important, because the external world will tend to derive its definition of you from what you call and think of yourself. And I think of myself as a professional gamer, because you all are paying me every day to play video games, and I am extremely grateful for that. To me, a professional means, one, you have a craft that you work on every day, and two, you get paid to work on it. Like if you're a professional musician, you get paid to play music — and you also play music even if you're not getting paid. So to me, a professional is whatever you decide you want to do because you love it and because you want to get paid for it.
Fighting the Second Sister
I don't think this is a good idea. I don't think this is a good idea to be screwing with her. I'm just saying, she looks... Hell yes, I am. I want to take a vacation right now. I don't need to be fighting you. She looks like she's been practicing at this. She didn't even do anything. How do I know if it's a red attack or not? Relax! Ah! Second Sister — not the kind of sister I'm looking for. Oh, she evaded soon. Ah! Relax with me. Hold on — it's my first time playing this game. I'm on story mode. I'm going to cut a fellow a brick. Ah! She's good. She's really good. Who'd you train with? Darsidious? I'm trying to evade. She cut me. Come on. Beating the hell out of me. Ah! Just let me... I need to explode as fast as I can.
Did they shoot me or her? I hope that's a friendly ship. Hey, it's you again. Good. Let's go. I'm a little overwhelmed. I'm a little overmatched right here — clearly haven't had enough training for this kind of a fight. She didn't even have a scratch on her uniform after that fight. She'd make you shoot yourself. I wouldn't let her get on. I definitely wouldn't let her get on.
Growing Your Brain with New Games
My mother-in-law was talking about how, if you really want to grow your brain — on Brené's podcast, she heard a neuroscientist talking about how to grow your brain. These nuns who donated their brains to science had physical signs of Alzheimer's on their brains, but no external symptoms. Because if you're constantly using and growing and challenging your brain, that gives you the opportunity to keep developing your brain. And when she was talking, what I took away is the necessity of playing new games for my own personal development — the growth of my own brain.
We think playing the same old thing over and over again is challenging our brain, but what really challenges our brain is getting out of our comfort zone. You can feel it when you play a new game. Your brain gets a little bit uncomfortable, because it doesn't know what to do. It doesn't know the rules of this new game, and it struggles a little bit to make sense of it. And it's that struggle that helps the brain grow and open up. When my mother-in-law was talking, that's what I heard. It's like, oh — if I play new games all the time, I can be developing my brain a lot more than playing the same old games.
Ah, shit! He's got my controller. Ah, fuck! What the hell just happened? This hit my head — hit the headset, not my head. What the hell? I hope somebody laughed at that, because that didn't make any sense at all why that needed to happen. I can't hear anything now. Come on. Jedi. There's the audio. And may the Force be with you. Oh, my God. This results in some slapstick humor for everybody today. I didn't mean to do that — wouldn't have been funny if I'd have meant to.
Yes, you were the someone I was supposed to meet. I'm glad you all enjoyed that. This character has been alone for a while now, without any purpose, just hiding. You need a woman, my dude. Or maybe a man — whatever's your thing. I don't know if a droid's gonna give you what you need. Zero is right — maybe we're done hiding. You wanna meet some friends of mine? Alright, we got a new achievement! Let's go! Hey, who knew it was this little droid the whole time?
10,000 Sexy Women Are Not Worth One Wife
I was thinking about it in terms of numbers, too. A lot of us with streaming, especially, get obsessed with numbers. And I thought of it in terms of women. 10,000 women that think I'm cute and want to go out with me are not worth one of my wife, who's been with me 10 years. 10,000 sexy women who want to go out with me are not equal to my wife — one wife that really loves me and has been there for me. What my one wife is worth, you can't even quantify it in those terms. Because 10,000 women who might want to go out with me and think I'm cute — in a way, that's worthless in my current position. Even if something happened to my wife, the only way 10,000 women wanting to go out with me would be valuable is if one of them could eventually end up being my wife again.
So the message is that having deep relationships is often infinitely more valuable than having quantity. Like having some customers that are dedicated who buy every day — if you're a business, having some customers that are your number one customers, that are there all the time, that's often worth more than a lot of leads. And that's been a big learning opportunity for me. A lot of the world encourages you to think you're worth more in terms of quantity. But really, quality can't even be measured sometimes. I can't measure my wife in terms of the quantity of women who might want to date me.
"Why Don't You Stop Using Your Addiction as a Hook?"
Somebody in the chat asked, "Why don't you stop using your addiction as a hook?" I love how, no matter what somebody says, I'll turn it into a positive talking point. What I find in life is that I talk about what's true and authentic to me, and then that will attract people who are on the same wavelength to me. And I'm also looking to help and be of service. The reason I do these livestreams is because I know there's a lot of gamers at home drinking and smoking weed. I'm not saying those things are bad by themselves, or that if you do that, there's something wrong with you. I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is, there's a lot of you who are stuck smoking weed, playing video games, and just hating your life — desperately trying to escape through that, and thinking about taking your own life, or maybe somebody else's, hurting and not knowing if anybody understands them. Basically like I was seven years ago. I know there's a lot of people in that situation. I have gotten out of that situation, and I feel it's my responsibility — in order to stay out of that situation — to share my experience and my truth.
Some of us feel like addiction is something to be ashamed of and we shouldn't talk about it, but I don't. I've come to believe the way we help each other is to talk about our struggles and to be open about things like addiction. For me, my friends gaming were some of the few people who really knew what I was like when I was in the middle of my addiction. And what's cool is I'm seeing that people who know their friends are in a pretty bad spot are discreetly recommending my stream to them. They know their friends are just wasting their lives away and killing themselves with alcohol and drugs, and they say, hey, you should check out Jerry Banfield's stream. Well, I missed that one, though. And what's cool is that then they don't have to be the one telling their friend that something's wrong with them and they should go to rehab — their friend just kind of discreetly gets the message in my stream.
So I talk about what feels right to me. And some people really get triggered. The people who often really need to hear what I have to say the most will often be the most triggered by my stream, and I'm glad I figured that out. Your ego will often fight for real — I know that — but not so grossly as to block the help you need. So I know some of the people who come in here the most critical, who leave the most negative comments, are the ones that might turn into true fans. I give people a chance to turn around their comments.
Reading Energy and Setting Boundaries
Sometimes people just come in with a little test. But some people are struggling a lot, and they don't know how to talk without being nasty. It's weird, too — you can read a certain energy on people so quickly. You can see where some people's energy is at just with the first thing they say. And I've got love and empathy for people, because that's how my energy used to be. If that was seven years ago, that would have been me making those comments in there, or saying something worse than that. But at the same time, you don't have to tolerate somebody just because you love them. You don't have to hang out with people that are giving you that energy. You always have a right to set boundaries for yourself, and often just walking away is the best thing to do. Now, since I can't really walk away in my live stream, I keep hitting X instead. I don't have the ability to walk away in my live stream, so I just hit the mute button on X.
Marriage and the Law of Attraction
This is real important with being married, too. I realize my wife can do almost anything she wants — almost the only thing that can make me feel bad is what I do to her. So if she says something to me, I have the ability to take it however I want to. If she says something mean to me, whenever I let it go, things work out really good. But if I say something mean back to her, then I start feeling bad about it. And there's a law of attraction — so if you're feeling bad, you'll attract more feeling bad, unless you basically pray and go to your higher power, and/or set an intention to get out of that, and from that point you're setting a new attraction point. I love the law of attraction. The way I've come to understand it, it doesn't mean a positive pole of a magnet attracts another positive pole all the time — it means you're essentially attracting the circumstances of your life all the time based on what you're thinking and how you're acting. So if you're being nice to people, you're attracting more nice people and circumstances. And if you're so nice, life will even test you and throw in somebody who's not nice — okay, see if you can be nice in this scenario. And if you pass that test, it'll give you another scenario.
Gandhi, Jesus, and Tests I'm Not Up For
I guess if you worked up to Gandhi level, you'll get shot in the face on the way to prayer and see if you can still love that person. There's a story — that's how Gandhi really died. Gandhi was shot in the face on his way to praying in 1948. And yeah, that's insane. But also think about that. That's a level of: could you love somebody even if they murdered you? Could you still find love and empathy? Like Jesus on the cross saying, forgive them, for they know not what they do — they don't realize that they're hurting themselves by doing this. I'm not up for that kind of test, so hold off on that one. Maybe we'll not do that one at all.
Will I Play It Again?
I think this is a good spot — we just saved in the game, and it's about time to pick my daughter up. We've had fun playing this game today, and we've had some good conversations. I'm glad I tried this. Now the question is, will I end up playing this again? The true test of whether a game's good is the action: do I play this game again? I don't know, but we're gonna find out. If you enjoyed watching me take on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for the first time, you can follow the whole 200-new-games adventure in my Games playlist.
