The big Internet Computer Protocol announcement is here today, and it came through Pierre's timeline. This is huge. The article Pierre posted says the United Nations has partnered with DFINITY to launch sovereign AI pilots for five governments. That is massive potential usage. That is going straight to the highest levels of adoption, because if you have governments using this, then all the corporations, the enterprises, and the solopreneurs follow. If governments have their infrastructure built on ICP, then it makes everything else easier — financial transactions, integrating one system with another, all of it. This is outstanding.
So let's look at exactly what the announcement says, posted exclusively from Pierre's profile and hosted on ICP. The headline is that a United Nations agency is teaming up with a Switzerland-based organization to help governments build AI-powered software without relying on U.S.-based cloud providers. That is a gigantic amount of ICP that, if this goes well, could potentially be burned. If people are paying attention, this is the highest level of usage you're looking at, because this is not just "we're going to send some transactions." This is ICP becoming the hosting infrastructure for governments that build everything out with AI. Again — huge potential token burn, and that is in a position to move the price.
Why This Matters
Concerns about the world's reliance on foreign cloud providers have been mounting as governments question how much control they retain over sensitive citizen data stored in infrastructure operated by companies abroad. This is a worldwide issue outside of the U.S. and China, which have the main hyperscalers in the world. There are a ton of governments that want to get control of their own data, and they want to take advantage of AI to build their infrastructure out.
The United Nations and the DFINITY Foundation are launching a pilot program to help governments test AI-powered applications that give them control over where their data is hosted. They're going to select five countries for the initial pilots within a month. Pakistan looks like it was one of the first to get started testing some of this within the last year, and now this is expanding to five countries. That's huge. It expands on Pakistan's ongoing partnership with DFINITY, and Pakistan is the fifth largest country on Earth. That's a lot of people.
And again — this is not just sending transactions and generating a tiny little bit of revenue on the blockchain. This is a government like Pakistan building a significant part of its infrastructure on ICP. We could be talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars a day of ICP being burned to pay for all the computation. Millions of dollars a month in buying demand to pay for all that computation. These are the exact partnerships you would be hoping for if you're an ICP holder, because there is a huge amount of computation that could sit behind these.
The Kill Switch Problem
The big picture is that as governments rush to adopt AI, some are experimenting with ways to build AI-powered services without becoming dependent on the major cloud providers. This is a huge problem. Right now, if you want to build anything out with AI, you are stuck having to trust OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, or Anthropic. You are stuck. And then they have total control of your government. They could shut off your government if they felt like it. Governments are waking up to the fact that they can't really have control if they're building their infrastructure somewhere the U.S. and China can just shut off anything they want. They can spy on us, they can steal all our data, they can do anything to us, and we're totally powerless.
So ICP is solving a huge problem, and that's just on the government side. Individual builders like me have every incentive to use ICP too. You can see it plainly: relying on the U.S. and China leaves these companies beholden to those countries' data storage and regulation.
How the Pilots Will Actually Work
What's going to happen is that each country will work with the United Nations and DFINITY to turn a specific need or problem into a project that can be built and tested using DFINITY's technology. So they're likely going to spread all over the world. I mean, huge, huge for adoption. There are member states who are concerned about where the data fueling AI applications was being stored. Here's an example use case from the announcement: using AI to analyze medical scans from roughly 200,000 patients while keeping all of that data under government control. That, again, is burning lots of computation and storing lots of data on the blockchain, which has to be paid for with ICP.
This is proving our thesis — that we're in the right position, and that ICP is a huge deal. The real question, and Bobby O has been laying this out perfectly in his videos, is whether countries can actually take advantage of AI at all. Right now they can't really use AI without having all their sensitive government and citizen data under their own control. Dominic Williams, DFINITY's founder, told Axios that the AI boom is raising the stakes for countries that rely heavily on data providers like Google and Microsoft and companies from China. Here's him saying it: if someone can flick a kill switch and knock out your cloud and your AI, your country is going to grind to a halt. So governments have a huge use case here. This is a pilot program, and they're going to test it and make sure all of this works.
Why the Price Didn't 5x Today
Now, the obvious thing that all the whiners will come out with is: why isn't the price moving? Why didn't the price 5x today because of this announcement? This announcement proves we're going in the right direction. It proves there's massive, huge adoption coming. But if you notice, they didn't actually mention the ICP token at all. And this is how ICP is being promoted at the highest levels, because crypto is so scammy and so disliked by the masses. Most people in the world don't like crypto and don't have a positive opinion of it.
This announcement is showing our thesis that the technology matters that much — that it's getting out there at the highest levels. And when the tech gets out there at the highest levels and it's ICP, that will mean real ICP being burned. When ICP is being burned, the price for it will have to go up at certain levels of burn.

Plus I can keep upgrading it and making the game better, so the AI can just build and upgrade the game easily for me. So this infrastructure is huge, and I can see it firsthand. The more things like this I build, the more I have to keep buying and burning more ICP to pay my web hosting costs. And I know the infrastructure is extremely cost efficient, because it's only cost me something like $20 to host my website — the back end, the front end canisters, and all of that stuff.
What Happens Next
So this partnership with the UN is a huge deal. And the price will move at some point. When somebody figures out what all of this means and realizes they can get in ahead of the game, they will get in on it.
